The bandage is made of a porous, non-woven polyester material that only sticks to itself and not to the skin or hair. After application, it does not become loose, so that long-lasting, reliable pressure is achieved. To keep the bandage in place, neither adhesive tape nor clamps are required. 3M, already known for its adhesive plasters, has invented the first elastic immobilization tape. Although the tape adheres to itself, it does not stick to the skin. Gradually the adjective "cohesive" is used to describe this self-adhesiveness without adhesive.
